The Andaman Cabriolet : Made for Thailand
Cut Snake was built for conditions in Alan Carwadine’s home base. The hulls were designed for that epic trip to Antarctica − and to race.
The Andaman Cabriolet has kept all the best features of both, but adapted for the market in the tropics. What are the differences?
Retractable saloon roof
The Andaman Cabriolet’s wide open, spacious saloon and cockpit gives the option of sailing ‘al fresco’ for all on board, without crowding in the cockpit area or being cut off in the saloon from the action. At the same time, the saloon can be sealed off from the elements with the retractable saloon roof and sidescreens − perfect for those times when you have extra guests on board using the drop-down saloon table/extra berth configuration.
Accommodation for family, friends or charter
With a generously-sized shower/toilet, and a double and a single berth in each hull, complete privacy of two ‘family units’ is assured − both with identical accommodation. Add to that the extra double berth in the saloon, and the Andaman Cabriolet can comfortably accommodate eight people.
Galley in saloon
No more going below decks to cook or make a cup of coffee. The Andaman Cabriolet galley is in the saloon, meaning you don't miss out on your group's fun and games just because you've got galley duty.
Easily managed...
At 14m, the Andaman Cabriolet’s rig is 3m shorter than Cut Snake’s and the beam is 60cm narrower. This design adjustment was made specifically to provide for easier sailing by crew with modest experience, with particular reference to both the charter market and those who sail only occasionally. The boat can be sailed comfortably and safely by two persons.
... but still fast
Despite the modifications, the design caters for those who like to mix some racing with their cruising. The hull design is sleek, with very little rocker so it doesn’t drag water. Because of the impact on bouyancy of the hull design, weight is a key factor but, despite some material modifications to Alan’s original design for strength and durability, the Andaman Cabriolet still weighs in at just 3,500 Kgs lightships (racing trim).
Retractable engine system
The Andaman Cabriolet’s two outboards are encased in a compartment in each hull and are lowered and retracted using an electro/hydraulic lift system from a control at the helm, adjacent to the throttle control. This, combined with the engine thrust directly over the two rudders, makes for effortless handling in marinas and easily-controlled retraction of the engines.
Environmentally conscious
As the number of yachts in the waters around and near Thailand grows rapidly, so does the environmental effect. Unlike many countries, the region has no regulation on sewage disposal from boats, and discharging raw sewage into the ocean is common. The Andaman Cabriolet is probably the first yacht in its price bracket to feature as standard the ‘Saniloo™ Onboard Sewage Treatment System’ that renders treated waste 99% clear of harmful bacteria.
