The Andaman Cabriolet : The Composite Cats team
Shane Smith
South African Shane Smith is a RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore and has been a delivery and charter skipper most of his working life, with particular experience on catamarans. Shane has more than 60,000 NM under his belt as skipper, including six Atlantic crossings and two Indian Ocean crossings.
Laurette Lubbers
Living in Queensland, Australia, Laurette has been a passionate sailor all her life, with thousands of miles cruising and racing to her credit. Since 1996, she has been running a specialist stainless steel fabrication business, whose clients include both high end construction projects and luxury yachts. Laurette’s role is as logistics and supply co-ordinator for all materials (the majority) coming out of Australia. Laurette makes sure we get the right materials at the right price − on time in Phuket.
Grenville Fordham
Grenville’s association with Thailand’s marine industry includes founding both Phuket Raceweek and PIMEX (The Phuket Boatshow) and publishing Southeast Asia Pilot (formerly Andaman Sea Pilot). He was a founding member, and an early Chairman, of the Marine Alliance of Thailand (forerunner of Thai Marine Business Association). His background embraces hotel & tourism management, international marketing, property development and publishing. His main role with Composite Cats is in market positioning and promotion, but he also brings a different perspective to many aspects of the Andaman Cabriolet’s design. While unable to claim ‘thousands of miles’ at sea, Grenville has become passionate about sailing since arriving in Phuket nine years ago.
Alan Carwadine
Alan’s contribution to the design has been invaluable. He will remain ‘on board’ as a consultant. Alan raced the prototype Andaman Cabriolet, Niña, to victory in her first regatta, Six Senses Phuket Raceweek 2009.
Supaporn Banjongpas
As a company director, Supaporn’s main role is to keep a bunch of enthusiasts in line and within budget.
Nittaya Khongmai
Company director and administration manager, Nittaya’s role is to keep the machinery oiled and running smoothly in every department − and to make sure the bills are paid.
Roger Diggleman
Through his company, Composite Yachts, Roger is on contract to Composite Catamarans to provide labour and to supervise the construction of the Andaman Cabriolet at his boatyard in Chalong. Roger is well known as a local craftsman and perfectionist. |
